Jordan Daniel Wood – Hell and Universalism

Jordan Daniel Wood – Hell and Universalism

In their third discussion with Jordan Daniel Wood, Dominic and Paul discuss Hell and Universalism. Using Pope Francis’s distinction between the role of the catechist and the role of the theologian, they put what the Church teaches about Hell into dialogue with Jordan’s theological studies. They talk about how holding the tension between the solid teaching and the theological proposals that venture further, without letting go of the teaching, can create a space for contemplation and for God to work.

Jordan Daniel Wood is a stay-at-home dad of four young daughters. He entered the Catholic Church about eight years ago. He holds a PhD in Historical Theology from Boston College, and, when not changing diapers and making school lunches, is currently working on two translation projects. He is also the author of the book, “The Whole Mystery of Christ: Creation as Incarnation in Maximus Confessor.”

Monica Pope – The Kerygma and the Eucharist

Monica Pope – The Kerygma and the Eucharist

This week, Paul had a conversation with his friend and ministry partner, Monica Pope, about kerygmatic catechesis. They recently wrote a new retreat about the kerygma and the Eucharistic Liturgy called, “Destined.” They begin the episode discussing the kerygma, that is, the proclamation of God’s goodness and desire to give us all a share in his divine life. They talk about what makes kerygmatic catechesis different from the catechesis so many Catholics have experienced. They also talk specifically about how to understand and experience the Eucharistic Liturgy in light of the kerygma.

Monica Pope has been doing evangelizing catechesis for 30 years in the Catholic Church. She has worked in Michigan parishes as Director of Catechesis, RCIA leader, and Director of Discipleship Ministries. Monica has created family catechesis programs in several parishes; she’s formed many dedicated and gifted Catholic disciples to be effective catechists. She’s written and led hundreds of retreats, presented for thousands of people, ranging from First Communicants and their parents, to senior residents at assisted living facilities, to employees of diocesan chancelleries.

His book, ‘Your Pro-Life Bottom Line’ is a case study that unpacks his thinking and process, so that anyone, anywhere, can start applying the art and science of branding to share a message.

ABOUT BRETT ATTEBERRY
Brett Atteberry’s pro-life work began when I had a powerful mid-life conversion to Christ that eventually led me to a Rachel’s Vineyard retreat. He was searching for healing from a role he played in the abortion of his child years earlier. After experiencing a powerful outpouring of God’s healing grace during the retreat, he soon left for-profit work entirely. Today, he devotes himself full time to saving lives from abortion. He has an academic and professional background in economics and consumer product marketing, and strives to incorporate business strategies into his pro-life work.

What is Catholic Social Teaching? | Pope Francis Generation

What is Catholic Social Teaching? | Pope Francis Generation

Paul and Dominic kick off Season Two by asking, what is Catholic Social Teaching? They share stories about how they first came across this “best-kept secret” of the Church’s tradition before Paul launches into the history and development of the Church’s social doctrines. Catholic Social Teaching challenges every political ideology and calls for Christians to embrace the “upside down” thinking of Jesus.

“Certainly, all this calls for an alternative way of thinking. Without an attempt to enter into that way of thinking, what I am saying here will sound wildly unrealistic. On the other hand, if we accept the great principle that there are rights born of our inalienable human dignity, we can rise to the challenge of envisaging a new humanity. We can aspire to a world that provides land, housing and work for all. This is the true path of peace.” (Pope Francis, Fratelli Tutti)

ABOUT FEMCATHOLIC
