Great definition of difference between Christ and today’s society

Thanks for a great presentation. Logical articulation of psychological mechanics of total evil and how Christ broke it. Pernicious evil because all of us who perpetrate it think we are good and right. A paradox, but paradoxes are often ultimate truth. But I wonder if you would say that Sauron thought he was good and right, or Saruman. Seems like there is an evil more evil than the Sin of the World, that of Satan who just likes to be evil because that’s how he does. Also to me, anyway, it’s worth meditating about how the Grand Inquisitor scene in Brothers Karamazov relates to what Girard taught on Mimetic theory and scapegoat mechanism. Anyway, thanks for all this grist for my mill.
Fr. Longenecker, I’m always amazed by your brilliance and ease with which you translate profound ideas into a language I can understand, with transcendent humor and wit. I smiled at the beginning and wept at the end of your insightful and powerful presentation, recognizing only too well the pernicious cycle of scapegoating as perpetrator and victim. I can’t thank you enough.
